Initiative 3.8.1: Initiate scoping and seek grant or external funding to advance the concept of Noosa Shire as a 'Living Lab' – partnering with industry and research organisations to investigate, use data and technology to develop innovative solutions for Noosa.
Q1:On Track
Secured $300k grant from Advance Qld for delivery of 'Tokenizer' program to develop AI & Robotics capabilities in the region. This includes advancement of Living Lab proposition. Established new partnerships with Airbus, ANU, Thales and NBRF to leverage Living Lab capabilities for innovation. Successfully hosted and co-delivered the LG Innovate Summit in partnership with Amazon AWS and Davidson, to explore the use of generative AI in local govt context. Over 70 delegates from across the country, establishing the Hub and Council as leaders in this space. Completed AI cadetship program for high school students. 27 cadets participated from 12 schools. 7 week program culminating in demo day. Successful school holiday program in September with 11 workshops over 2 weeks with 87 kids participating (aged 5 to 16).

Grant funding was secured in late 2023 from Advance Qld for a collaborative project to progress trials of aerial intelligence during bushfire emergencies. Trial takes place in April 2025 in the Living Lab and involves collaboration with QPWS, Thales, Airbus, ANU and others. A further grant application has been submitted as part of Cities Deal funding to create a smart mobility lab in the Peregian Digital Hub precinct, to expand the living lab infrastructure.

Collaboration partners have been secured. Test plan 90% complete. Detailed test planning being finalised in working groups. First briefing complete. Second briefing due 14th May. 1st week June conduct pending casa approvals and weather. Potential to slide up until school holidays. The grant application for Cities Deal funding to create a smart mobility lab in the Peregian Digital Hub precinct was unsuccessful.

The grant application for Cities Deal funding to create a smart mobility lab in the Peregian Digital Hub precinct was unsuccessful. Council continues to work with the adjacent landowner within the innovation precinct about synergies with the proposed development of that site. The scope and opportunity for advancing Living Lab is progressing through the development of the investment Road Map to Net Zero Emissions and implementation of Smart Biosphere Strategy priorities. Formalising this program will require further consideration.
