Australian government concerned that the UN is trying to act without asking the US for permission first (The Chaser)

The Australian government has defended their choice to abstain from a UN motion to require Israel stop illegal occupations in Palestine, explaining that while they chose to do the wrong thing, they do feel really bad at about it.

“We are deeply concerned by this vote,” said International Affairs Minister Penny Wong, “that proposal is not how you do things. The UN forgot the most important part of international diplomacy: getting America’s approval before doing anything.”

Senator Wong went on to explain that the Australian government fully supports the idea of telling Israel to follow international law, but feels that telling them to follow every law is a bit much.

“These issues are complex and take real nuanced leadership to handle. Strong stances need to be taken and we encourage America to give Australia permission to take those stances if future votes arise.”

Prime Minister Albanese has reportedly already begun drafting a tweet expressing ‘deep concern’ to anyone hurt by how Israel’s allies voted.
