‘The Coalition’s lack of commitment to a 2030 target is disgraceful’ claims party that also hasn’t made that commitment (The Chaser)

Shadow climate minister Chris Bowen has taken a stand today by slamming the LNP’s lack of effective and meaningful climate policy suggesting the government’s vague discussion of ‘net 0 by 2050’ won’t do anything if there isn’t clear plans and deadlines in place that are scientifically backed and fiscally sound, instead of just funnelling money to the dying fossil fuels industry.

Bowen’s main suggest was an emission target to reach by 2030 in order to force immediate action, similar to the one that was proposed by Labor’s former climate minister which lead to them being taken off that portfolio and Chris Bowen taking over the role and making it clear that Labor would not being implementing any tangible plan for a 2030 target.

“What does it say about your leadership if you won’t stand up to fight climate change?” asked Bowen channelling when parents say ‘do as I say not as I do’. “The coalition’s lack of commitment to a 2030 target is disgraceful, that is something that is only ok when we do it.”

“See this lot is all talk but behind the scenes they do nothing. They get on their high horse going on and on about other people not doing enough for climate change meanwhile they refuse to stand up to their fossil fuel donors and do something about it. The difference between you and us that we understand good climate policy is good jobs policy. We know that is true, and that is the difference. Go us!”
