The future of the Barns Lane site at Coolum, previously earmarked for a Bunnings development, looks to be one step closer to be settled and this time around the proposal is of a mixed use agri-tourism venue for locals and visitors alike.
A press release from the new owners of the land issued on February 18 outlined their intentions to develop a working farm with food and accommodation attractions attached at this key entrance to Coolum Beach.
Their words were as follows:
Coolum Beach has been earmarked for an exciting new agri-tourism venture. Barns Lane Farm will showcase our region’s brilliance through fresh local food and educational experiences, with activities aimed to promote community, local talent and artists.
Centered around a working farm, the proposed 6.8-hectare site at Barns Lane, Coolum, will feature food attractions such as a seasonal local produce hall, gin distillery, brewery, restaurant, bakery and more.
“We want Barns Lane Farm to be a local gathering spot and a place that draws tourists in to learn about our dynamic and diverse region,” said co-founder Jason Grant.
“Local really is key for us. We aim to empower the community through a range of excitingly unique initiatives, while also committing to holistic sustainability and the environment through responsible supply-chain and waste measures.”
The new rural-based tourism venture is co-owned and operated by experienced property developer Jason Grant, and successful businessman Jonathan Leishman, whose working relationship spans decades across various developments and family projects.
“To be able to combine our love and passion of the land, culture, mountains and of course food and beer, in a setting as convenient and breathtaking as Coolum is truly an honour,” said Mr Leishman.
The Council planning application will be lodged this week, with aims to open mid-2022, pending Sunshine Coast Council assessment. Final stages will include a 26-room boutique hotel suite for rural destination weddings and events.
